Prolotherapy is an orthopedic procedure that stimulates the body’s healing processes in order to repair and strengthen painful and injured joints and connective tissue. The aim of this therapy is to treat the joint pain both inside and out of the joint space. When tendons or ligaments (connective tissue) are stretched or torn, the joint they are holding destabilizes and becomes painful. By treating joint pain both inside and out of the joint space, the cause of the instability can be directly addressed, the weakened sites can be repaired, joint pain can be relieved and new collagen tissue is produced. This results in permanent stabilization of the joint. Once the joint is stable, the pain usually resolves.
